LOOK AGAIN: The Stories Within the Art

At first glance, you see a Lotus. Look a little closer, and you’ll find an awful lot more going on.

This 48″ × 30″ commission began with a car enthusiast in Florida who was eagerly anticipating delivery of his new Lotus Emira Jim Clark Racing Edition. But the car was only the starting point.

His passion for motorsports, admiration for legendary driver Jim Clark, and long-standing family tradition of attending the Indianapolis 500 all found their way into the artwork.

Scattered throughout the composition are historical racing images, photographs of cars, moments at the track, and personal photographs capturing memories with family and friends. Every image has a reason for being there. Some celebrate racing history. Others tell a much more personal story.

That’s what makes a commission especially rewarding for me. I get to step outside my own inspirations and enter someone else’s world. My job is to take all those individual pieces of their story and bring them together into something cohesive, visually compelling, and emotionally meaningful.

The finished piece became a focal point in his office and a pretty impressive backdrop for business video calls. Not a bad place to park a Lotus!

For me, the real reward came when the client recognized his own story within the artwork. That’s when I know we’ve created something more meaningful than a picture of a car.

One image. Hundreds of stories.

So, look again. What do you see?
