Art Life in the 21st Century

The role of technology as a medium for art

With the technological advances not only in paint and tools but also in cameras and computers, art has taken new forms. Digital art is an artistic practice since the 1960s that uses digital technology as part of its creation or presentation. This art form is included in new media art, which refers to all artworks created with new media technologies. Other art forms that use this new technology are computer graphics, computer animation, virtual art, internet art, sound art, etc.

Photography is also a relatively new and popular art medium today. Ever since the first camera was invented in 1826, the interest in capturing art with it has only grown in popularity. Now photography is available to so many that maybe this visual art medium is the most used in our day.  Popular photography techniques and styles include documentary, landscape, portrait, figure and digital photography.

So that brings us to today, we are completely immersed in technology in every corner of our lives. We carry the world in our pocket and screens are always within reach. With that, information is being delivered to us in large volumes on small screens. Reels, posts, tickers, screens within screens. It dumps that information into our view where our brain tries to sort, organize and make sense some of it for our cosumption. Very little is designed to enterain us. Capturing a moment, organizing the layers, designing a pleasing visual is what we all try to do, I try to do it in a different way. Maybe it is because my background is in design and I want to organize what I create. Regarless, this is a fascinating time in history, technology and art. My hope is to present something stimulating to your senses and visually pleasing to a high degree that you would want to have it hang in your home or office.

Several of the images above give you a peek into my little world, what I do and where I begin, when I start t create a piece of art.

Art does tell a story.
